Classmate’s Memory Helping Feed the Hungry

When classmate John Nowell passed away July 23, 2011 the family suggested contributions to the Liberty Christian Church Outreach Ministry.

The generosity of John’s friends wishing to honor him by contributing to a cause that was dear to the Nowell family helped start a program much needed in the community.

They decided to use the funds to start a program called Johnny’s Café in his honor to help feed the hungry in the community.

On the 3rd Saturday of each month from 11:30 until 1:00 they serve a complete hot lunch served on real plates/cups and silverware.  They wanted it to be something more special then serving on paper or Styrofoam plates/cups and plastic utensils.

November 2012

I am very happy to inform you that we just celebrated our 1 year anniversary (13th meal) this last Saturday with our biggest month ever.

On Saturday we had a traditional Thanksgiving meal, just like we started with a year ago. We had Turkey and Dressing, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, and Cranberry Salad. For desert there was Pumpkin cake with Cool-whip topping.

We had 19 men, 29 women, 13 boys, 22 girls and handed out 27 "to go" meals for a total of 110 guest. Then we also had a total of 33 volunteer/staff for a total of 143 meals served.

To date we have had 179 men, 206 women, 79 boys, 132 girls, 144 "to go" and 331 volunteer/staff for a total of 1071 meals served since we started back in Nov'11.

We have several regulars that we see each month but the most exciting thing is that we had a number of first time guests this month that have just learned about us. I am sure that many of them will soon be counted as regulars as well.
