Mary Dee Farris Gossett
(Remembered by her sister-in-law, Gloria)
Dee was born in Liberty and after graduation from LHS played semi-pro women’s basketball for a North Kansas City Team called “The Hellcats.” In 1960 Dee married John Gossett. They loved to travel in Europe and throughout the western United States, particularly the Rocky Mountains. Dee’s greatest joys were her three sons, but one died at age thirteen while walking on train tracks, listening to music. Her husband, five sisters and brother helped her survive that sad loss. She worked ten years as head cashier at the Old Country Buffet in Independence. She was always happy in the presence of her grandchildren, three boys and two girls.
After Dee was diagnosed with lung cancer, her husband took care of her and would not let anyone else help. They had been married for thirty-nine years when she died in Blue Springs on December 1, 1999.
