Was a struggle for several years. We both worked at the shop, Dewey doing the mechanic work and selling motorcycles. I did the paperwork, selling parts and at night painted motorcycles. After several years of working almost 24/7 we bought some horses for a hobby and it led us to showing horses, both the boys showed horses and went to the Youth World Hose Shows 1976 thru 1982both winning lots of AQHA awards along with State awards. Dewey and I took turns taking them to horse shows, as one of us needed to stay at the store. By this time we were making enough money to hire some help and give us a little time off.
In 1982 I started showing on my own - we had a Stallion "Mr.High Socks" and I showed colts of his for several years, and I might say doing very well.
In 1992 I got a really good Quarter Horse mare (Misbehavin I Aint). We really did well, we were in the top 10 in the United States in 1995 ( you earn this position by winning and getting points)
Misbehavin I Aint (Sister) and me qualified for the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City 2 times. This is done by winning and earning points also.
Sister and I went to the "All American Quarter Horse Congress in 1993. Have shown a lot of places, have been in floods, tornado's - a lot of experiences I'll never forget. I was President of Missouri Amateur Quarter Horse Assoc. 3~ years.
Did all of this and still worked at the store.
I bred my mare, Sister, to a Stallion in Texas (Blazing Hot) and at present am showing her little girl - I Aint Blazing". I still have my mare, she is 19 years old. I am still working at the shop and showing my horse. This year I got a new GMC Dually truck and a new Horse trailer with full living quarters. It is my home away from home. I have a TOY POODLE 13~ years old, he goes with everywhere I go.
In 2000, we built a new Harley-Davidson Store, still in St. Joe both of the boys work at the Store, they are now part owners.

We have a place in Rockport, Texas, Dewey spends the winter there - it is hard for me to leave the grandkids and my horses plus 1 still enjoy working at the shop.
We have lived at the same place for 30 years.
Our new store is right off 1-29 North , just 30 minutes north of KC1 the 44 mile exit.
Note from Susie Concerning 2007 Reunion
I really tried to come to the reunion this year, but our Horse Show started on Sunday and it was way too much driving for me. I would have driven to Liberty back to St. Joseph, then to Topeka, Kansas, pick up my horse, then turn around and drive to Des Moines, Iowa. It is going to be the same for next year, so will just have to wait until our 55th and try to make some different arrangements, maybe by then I will not be working as many days as I do now and can do something different.
Am glad you all had a good time.
Just got back from Nashville, Tenn. at the summer dealer meeting and saw all the new stock for 2008, got some terrific things coming down the pike.
Until next time.
Susie
