I was born in Jackson County, Missouri on January 10, 1938, went to grade school in Pleasant Valley and high school in Liberty, Missouri. After attending SMSU, I started my career as a deck hand in Duluth, Minnesota and eventually worked my way up as chief engineer on a merchant marine ship. The shipping industry went out of business in 1966, so I came back to Kansas City and worked at several companies before accepting employment with Kansas City Power & Light as an electrician. In 1994, I was offered an early out retirement package so retired after 25 years as a process control technician. I wasn't ready to end my work career so decided to work part-time at Childen's Mercy Hospital in their engineering department until retiring AGAIN in 2000.
Judy and I were married in 1969 and I have 1 child, 2 stepchildren and 2 grandchildren. Judy and I started traveling when we became "empty nesters" and one of my hobbies is recording these trips on a web page. (andrew.stanley.tripod.com). Judy and I are active in our church and also do volunteer work with the Shepherd Center. We belong to the Kansas City Power & Light ritiree club where I am vice president. Judy retired from a credit union where she worked as an administrative secretary for 20 years. We keep busy and are enjoying life to the fullest.
