John Donald (Don) Zismer, formerly of Liberty, Mo., passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Yuma, Ariz., on April 21, 2015. He was 82 years old. Don worked for the Clay County Sheriff's Department before working at the Fairfax GM plant where he retired in 1992. He was an Elk and member of the Yuma Historical Society. Don was born in Ava, Mo., to John H. and Florence Zismer and later moved to Kansas City where he attended Manual High School. Don was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, Betty, brother, Ronald, sister, Kaye, and son, John Richard. He leaves behind his wife, Charlene, daughter, Debra, son, Jeff, granddaughter, Remick, great granddaughter, Atticus, seven step grandchildren, brothers, Willis and Larry, sisters, Martha Nichols and Zoe Davis and his first wife, Wilma. Don enjoyed traveling, playing his guitar, and singing karaoke with his wife. A life celebration will be May 9 in Yuma at the Bottom's Up Bar and Grill and 1 p.m. May 17 at Tryst Falls Park in Excelsior Springs. The family asks in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society , American Diabetes Association or your local Humane Society.
