Elsa Cokely, 94, of Liberty, MO, peacefully passed away in her sleep Wednesday, October 8, 2003, with her husband of 69 years by her side. Elsa was born August 19, 1909, in Hamilton, MO, the daughter of John Dwight and Cora Ann Gibson. She met the love of her life, Kenneth Cokely, during her senior year in high school, and would go on to marry him in 1934, after graduating from Central Missouri State University with a teaching certificate. She thrived in the classroom, teaching elementary education in a variety of districts as Ken's coaching opportunities took them to California, Caledonia, Platte City and finally to Liberty, MO, in 1943. It was in Liberty that their roots were formed and Elsa taught off and on at Franklin Elementary School while raising their two children. She was an active member of the Liberty United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter IZ, Alexander Doniphan Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Town and Country Garden Club, Fortnightly, Liberty Hospital Auxiliary, and as many bridge clubs as possible. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Kenneth Cokely; her brothers, Leonard and Lolan Gibson; and her sister, Leta Goodrich. She is survived by her doting husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Kaye Megown and husband, Larry, of Parkville, MO; three grandchildren, Lori Megown of New York, NY, Mike Megown of St. Louis, MO, and Robyn Hart of Jefferson City, MO; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Hill, Liberty; burial in Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty. Friends may call from 910:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
