
Helen Lois (Hayes) Bechtel, 84, a long time resident of 
Liberty, MO, passed away January 3, 2024 at Brookdale Rosehill in Shawnee, KS. A 
visitation for Helen will be held on June 21, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Church Archer 
Pasley Funeral Home, 119 East Franklin Street, Liberty, MO. It will be 
immediately followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. At the conclusion of the 
memorial service, Helen will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, 
MO.
Helen was born on June 20, 1939, in North Kansas City, MO 
to Thelma Pearl (Barber) and Everett Samuel Hayes. She graduated from Liberty 
High School in 1957. She worked for many years in the banking industry as a bank 
teller and customer service representative at Commercial Bank then finishing her 
career at Pony Express Bank in Liberty when she retired in 2003.
Helen enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and other craft 
activities, but most of all, she loved her family. Helen had two daughters, 
Laura, and Jill, whom she dearly loved. She enjoyed watching her children and 
grandchildren in their extracurricular activities. She loved family gatherings 
and going on camping excursions. She also cherished her lifelong friends, some 
whom she has known since kindergarten. She lived her life with God as her 
blessing. Above all else she hoped to be remembered for her faithfulness to God, 
her friends, and her family.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma, and 
Everett; her brothers Donald, Richard, and Kenny Hayes; and her sister-in-law 
Jeanne (White) Hayes.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Laura Yanez (Brian), 
Overland Park, KS, and Jill Murphy (Gale), Frankfort, IL; her grandchildren 
Logan Murphy (Tori), Lindsey Murphy, Ruben Yanez and Richelle Yanez; many nieces 
and nephews; and many friends and family.
Helen and her family have asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made in Helen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the Ronald McDonald House.
