Mr. Jim G. Hurt, 60, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, at the Prichard Chapel in Excelsior Springs. Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scout Troop 313 or the Cub Scout Pack 313 in Excelsior Springs. Jim was born on January 20, 1941 in Excelsior Springs, to Charles Eugene "Mack" Hurt and Della Mae (Weakley) Hurt. He was a lifelong area resident. On August 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Halterman. He had worked for 41 years for the Ford Motor Company Claycomo Plant and operated the general store there for 15-years. He retired in May of 2000. He was a member of the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church and the United Auto Workers Local #249 in Claycomo. He had served as the vice-president of UAW Local 249 and had served on several committees. For 13 years, Jim was an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 313 and was an assistant Pack Leader for Cub Scout Pack 313, both in Excelsior Springs, MO. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish. He had been a devoted Chiefs fan and season ticket holder for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. "Mack" Hurt. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Janice Hurt of the home; a son, Chris Hurt and wife, Patti of Lancaster, PA; his mother, Della Mae Paterson of Excelsior Springs, MO; his three granddaughters, Lexi Hurt, Claudia Hurt and Mallory Hurt, all of Lancaster, PA; and two brothers-in-law, Rick Halterman of Kansas City, MO and Lee Halterman of Albuquerque, NM;.
