Joe Dean Banner, age 82, of Jackson, CA, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Sefora's Home Care in Orangevale, CA. Joe was born in Pollock, MO in May of 1935, a son of the late Clarissa (Duer) and William Jennings Banner.
Joe retired form 28 years of teaching at Sutter Creek Elementary in 1997 where he could be found playing the piano often as his students would enter the classroom. His fondness of literature and history were reflected in that teaching. In particular, most of his students will recall his reading to them his favorite book – The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster.
His influence on family, friends and students will endure long after his passing. He passed peacefully in the presence of his sons, Jordy and Trevor. He was and is loved and will be missed.
Joe is survived by his sons, Jordy Banner, of Sacramento, CA, Trevor Banner and his wife Sheryl Simpson, of Jackson, CA, grandson Ian Simpson-Banner, also of Jackson, niece Janet Banner of Quartz Hill, CA and her son, Clayton Jacobs as well as his best friend and partner Bob Soloman of Sacramento, CA. Joe's passing was preceded by his wife, Carol Anne Banner, and brother, Richard Banner.
A private burial will take place in the Jackson City Cemetery next to his wife, Carol.
