Loyd Raymond Gentry, 80, of Kansas City passed away
peacefully Monday, December 26, 2016. Loyd was born February 8, 1936 in
Smithville, MO, son of Loyd and Helen (Moore) Gentry, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Liberty High School and William Jewell College and attended
seminary at Texas Christian University Brite Divinity School. He was ordained at
Liberty Christian Church in 1962 and served at National Avenue Christian Church
in Springfield, MO from 1962 – 1969 and the First Christian Church of Aurora, MO
from 1969 – 1975. Loyd was the senior Minister at Fairview Christian Church for
27 years, retiring in 2002. His ministry included many interim pastorates
following retirement at communities surrounding Kansas City. In 2012 he
celebrated 50 years of ministry and in 2013 he received the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) Minister Emeritus award. Loyd was involved in Community
actives including the North Kansas City School District, Youth Friends, Drury
College School of Religion Board, Girls Scouts and Salvation Army. He was
recognized as the Gladstone Citizen of the Year in 1992. Loyd was a founding
member and Past President of the Gladstone Rotary Club and proud recipient of
two Paul Harris Fellow awards. He served as Chaplain of Ararat Shrine Temple for
many years and was honored to receive Chaplain Emeritus status earlier this
year. Survivors include Loyd's wife of 51 years, Lillian (Heldstab), daughter
Barbra (Rob) Campbell, son Michael, and many loving cousins, in-laws, nieces,
nephews and their families. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday,
Dec. 29 th with a memorial service at 10:30am on Friday, Dec 30, both at
Fairview Christian Church, 1800 NE 65 th St, Gladstone, MO. Interment White
Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorials can be made to Fairview Christian Church,
